Genre theory:

Repetition and difference (Steve Neil) is about how genres have stereotypes and how some media products subvert this. dbd is and example horror game that u can play as the killer 

Genre changes with society (David Buckingham) is about how overtime as society changes and becomes more accepting media will follow suit in hopes of being scene as more inclusive and 'with the times' this is to ensure that they can have commercial success and so that their product can reach other groups. eg Brock back mountain/ brockhamptom rap group with gay guys in it 

genre is used commercially (Jason Mittell) is about how genres are used to target its audience and make them watch it.eg marvel films 

Narrative theory:

cause and effect (pam cook) Something that happens in the media effects the characters and their surroundings eg family guy or some other shit show 

Conventional structure (Todorov)  editing and clean cuts that are unnoticeable

Representation theory:

male gaze (Laura Mulvey) women are shown as sexy and are shown as an object that the protagonist is earning. 

all ethnic characters in media are either comedic, exotic, pitied, or dangerous
