Preffered reading- accept what is told
Negotiated reading- when the ideology of products messages is agreed within general however picked apart by the audience
opposition reading- where the message has been communicated scatted and the audience hate the ideology
Active audience theory
The preferred meaning for the FHM magazine could be that this women is a model and that most men will like her body. Idiological belief of what the body of a women should look like/ limited clothes, looking at the camera/ women being pushed to believe that is the ideal partner
the negotiated meaning for the magazine could be that this model is beautiful but shows unreal body expectations towards younger generations of men and women
the opposite reading would be that they hate the the idea of this model due to its body expectations it puts on women as many young women could take this in the wrong way. do not objectify women./ outdated views on women
The Sun
Preferred meaning for this would be that the muslim religion is dangerous and that they are "converting" British people as if it was indrocnanatifon. Links to terrorism and it is trying to scare the general popultion/ demonisation of ethnic minorities as the sun is owed by a right wing conglomerate company.
The negotiated meaning for this magazine is that many muslim people may take offence towards this while many non muslims may become afraid of them, creating fear. only a small group of people do this
the opposition from the magazine would be not to judge a book by its cover ass many news companies use hyperbole such as the sun, to paint muslims in a bad light. The muslim community could be offended by it. Newspapers use emotive words such as "muslim"and "hyperbole"
preferred meaning is that Persil and taking a conglomerate responsibility to sell more products by presenting the idea that children should be going outdoors more, this is enhanced by the slogan free the kids while also comparing them to prison inmates, making it seem as if being indoors is bad.
