How do narrative theories relate to a media product you have studied?

The sequence from Spiderman into the spider verse uses the narrative theory by Pam Cook about Cause and Effect to show how Miles actions lead him to facing his fears and becoming a hero. This is shown via Mise-en-scene specifically the non diegetic sound that is the song. In which it repeats the line "what's up danger" and "cant stop me now" to present how Miles is becoming more comfortable with himself and what he has to become. The way the songs beat drops as Miles is falling is also used to make the audience feel as if Miles has just made a very intense and big step forward for the narrative. This all shows Miles character and his role in the film which shows that the structure in this film is very linear and action code based. This also links to Todorov's theory about conventional narrative structures, as the editing is linear and follows the 'classic fairy tail stories' as this is the moment just before the climax. Some production techniques that prove this are the fast cuts that are unnoticeable which are used to make the narrative flow in a chronological order.

Levi Straus theorised in 1958 that binary opposition is used a lot in media to present the difference between the protagonists and antagonists in a narrative. This is shown in media products such as Gradians of the Galaxy which use this to help the audience understand who the villains and heroes are in the movie. A production technique that shows this is the lightening used to represent good vs evil. This would be contrasting colours like red and blue, or white and black. This is used prodomently in the scenes with the villain as he is introduced with dark shadows and is shown to wear black clothing with a dark blue which helps the audience figure out he is evil.
