2001 a space odyssey assignment

MES

During the scene we see that the characters are wearing space suits which look more futuristic than what people wear using at the time. Which connotes to the audience that they might be in the future and also in space, this also connotes a feeling on wonder in the audience as they are made to ask questions such as "why are they in space?" making the narrative more interesting and mysterious.  

The setting is a very dark and mountainese setting, plus it has a dark black sky with a planet that looks close to earth in the distance. This connotes to the reader that they are not on earth and instead could very well be in space or on a distant planet.

A lot of the scenes including the characters are very interesting as the acting is used to make each character appear robotic as we rarely see there face and instead only see there actions which are very slow and paced to make the scene more tense and connote a sense of fear in the audience as they gain closer to the mysterious object in the middle.

CW

Most of the CW in the clip include wide shots of all the spacemen, including OTS shots of the spacemen to show what they are looking at. They are mostly shot through handheld as this connotes to the audience that they are apart of the scene and are along side the characters.  There are also a lot of establishing shots that present to the audience the scene and setting which connotes to the audience that there on a desolate area full of mountains. the excavation that is also shown in a establishing shot connotes mystery and tension for the audience as we do not know what the object in the middle is.

ED

The editing in the clip is very slow paced with long takes that build a sense of mystery and leave a lingering feeling in the audience with foreshadows that something bad might happen. This is also enhanced by the still cuts that connote fear as it seems to be building up to something. 

SOUND

The lack of diegetic sounds enhances the feeling that they are in space and also connotes alot of fear and tension in the audience. Due to the fact we can only hear the non diegetic rising strings in the background connotes fear in the audience as well as it leads up to something sort of like a horror movie as your expecting a jump scare or something bad to happen.
